Radio Slave
Biography
Matt Edwards, best known under his globally respected alias Radio Slave, is a true craftsman of electronic music and a defining voice in modern underground club culture. With a career spanning over two decades, he’s become a name synonymous with long, hypnotic grooves, precision-built productions, and transformative festival sets that keep crowds locked in from dusk to dawn.
Born in the UK and now based in Berlin, Matt’s journey began in the early ’90s London scene, playing at legendary venues like The Milk Bar and Ministry of Sound. Shaped by the first wave of acid house, his mission was simple: make music that people could lose themselves to no labels, no limits, just pure dancefloor connection.
In 2006, Edwards co-founded his acclaimed label Rekids, home to a global roster of forward-thinking artists and a trusted source of cutting-edge techno and house. Through Rekids, he’s built a legacy of timeless releases that bridge the gap between underground grit and global recognition.
“Shaped by the first wave of acid house, his mission was simple: make music that people could lose themselves to no labels, no limits, just pure dancefloor connection.”
As Radio Slave, Matt’s sound is deep, rolling, and relentlessly rhythmic. His music sits at the intersection of techno, minimal, and deep house, blending stripped-back percussion, hypnotic basslines, and a subtle emotional pulse that keeps both dancers and DJs hooked. His productions often stretch into extended, tension-filled journeys, a signature style that has made him a fixture at world-class clubs and festivals alike.
Beyond his flagship alias, Edwards explores new sonic worlds through his other projects:
-
Matthew E – Raw, Chicago-inspired house with a funk-driven edge.
-
Rekid – Soulful, downtempo rhythms and broken-beat grooves.
-
Quiet Village (with Joel Martin) – Cinematic, sample-based soundscapes and Balearic textures.
-
Sea Devils (with Tom from Cagedbaby) – Electronic pop built for the crossover dancefloor.
Across all these projects, one thing remains constant: a deep respect for club culture and the craft of DJing. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, Radio Slave has an unmatched ability to move a crowd — not with hype, but with flow, patience, and authenticity.
His work has appeared on respected labels like Rekids, Skint, Soul Jazz, Classic, and Whatever We Want, alongside collaborations with pioneers like The Glimmers. Each release continues to showcase his ability to evolve while staying rooted in the timeless essence of dance music.
