Festival101 was founded by Mike, a lifelong music lover whose journey through trance, techno, and underground electronic music revealed the powerful role music plays in building communities. While Cape Town’s electronic music scene is vibrant and passionate, it can also be difficult to navigate. Genres often exist in silos, communities become fragmented, and newcomers struggle to find the right events, artists, or crews. Festival101 was created to bridge those gaps. Not only for festival goers, but for the people behind the scenes too. Event organisers, artists, vendors, and service providers who keep South Africa’s electronic music culture alive.
Built During the Pandemic, For the Scene
Festival101 was born during the COVID 19 pandemic, a time when the live music and festival industry faced unprecedented challenges. What began as a free platform quickly became a vital support system for electronic music artists and event organisers. When a headliner pulled out of a festival the night before an event, it highlighted a deeper issue. There was no reliable, central place to find accurate information about electronic music events and artists. Mike responded by offering free artist profiles, helping DJs and producers stay visible and discoverable. From there, Festival101 grew organically through trust, consistency, and community driven support.
