Biography

Max Hurrell is a Cape Town–based DJ and electronic music producer, born in England and raised in South Africa. Having spent over a decade behind the decks and more than five years producing original music, Max has built a reputation for versatility, creativity, and an instinctive understanding of what moves a crowd.

“Max Hurrell turns everyday moments into dance floor energy!”

He gained widespread national and international attention during lockdown with his satirical track “ZOL”, a remix of a government speech that struck a cultural nerve. The song topped the South African iTunes charts, amassed millions of views across social platforms, and even inspired its own TikTok dance challenge. While the moment introduced Max to a broader audience, it also showcased his sharp production skills and ability to translate real-world moments into infectious electronic music.

Beyond the viral success, Max is no newcomer to the scene. He has performed at some of South Africa’s most iconic festivals, including Ultra South Africa, Rocking the Daisies, and Rage Festival, earning his place on major stages through consistent dedication to his craft.

Musically, Max Hurrell’s sound leans toward melodic electronic music, though he remains intentionally genre-fluid. Known for experimenting across tempos and styles, he balances playful creativity with more serious, emotionally driven productions such as his single “Whisper.” With a growing catalogue and a focus on long-term artistic growth, Max continues to evolve as one of South Africa’s most exciting young electronic artists.
