The event
INTRODUCING PROTOCULTURE:
Few South African producers enjoy the success that DJ and Producer Nate Raubenheimer, better known to most as Protoculture, has had over the span of his career. Hailed by many of his peers as one of South Africa’s biggest dance music exports, he has also left his mark on the international dance scene with his trademark blend of melodic and emotionally charged compositions and DJ sets. PsySailing is stoked to have him on board this summer!
Sucked into the art of music production at a young age, Nate made the leap to pursue a music career professionally after completing his studies in Audio Engineering at age 20, immediately taking the international psy-trance scene by storm. His international debut came at the United Kingdom’s famed Glastonbury Festival. With the release of his first artist album, “Refractions”, and the follow up “Circadians”, a slew of international performances ensued worldwide, seeing Nate travel all over the globe.
Protoculture, as a DJ and live performer, previously ranked South Africa’s number one DJ according to the DJ Mag Top 100, has played alongside a diverse range of international heavyweights as well as headlined countless shows around the world. A staple at Armin van Buuren’s legendary A State of Trance World Tours, Nate performed alongside the 5 times world number one DJ in Mexico, South Africa and The Netherlands to sell out crowds with live performances being broadcast around the world to over 20 million people.
For PsySailing he will be scaling back a bit… playing to only 40 fortunate fans!
In his own words: ‘For all of us, the last two years have been pretty life changing, for better or worse. Personally, the change of pace and priorities have really given me a new perspective on my music and afforded me a lot of creative freedom. This has landed me where I am currently with Protoculture, delving into deeper, soulful, and beautiful music. I’m super excited to share my current headspace with you all at sea. The February sail of this summer season is on Sunday 20th and offers the unique hybrid of top class Trance and the Ocean, affording you the opportunity to enjoy an intimate party aboard a designer 40ft catamaran with:
- Panoramic vistas of the dramatic Atlantic seaboard
- Sunset from out at sea
- Chance close up encounters with the Atlantic marine wildlife
- A gentle cruise to the calm waters of Clifton…or a wild sail to wherever the elements take us!

Setting sail from the V&A Waterfront, we will welcome you dockside at 17h00, ready to cast off at 17h30, and will have you safely ‘reberthed’ after sunset, at 20h00.
