Rhepuls

South African DJ and producer Rhepuls, the alias of Francois de Villiers, has established himself as a distinctive presence within the country’s underground drum & bass scene. Based in South Africa and closely connected to Johannesburg’s electronic music community, Rhepuls has been active on the local circuit since at least 2016, developing a sound centred around heavyweight rhythms, detailed production, and forward leaning electronic textures.

His productions explore the darker and more intricate side of drum & bass, drawing on elements of jungle, tech driven sounds, and atmospheric electronic music. Releases such as Tenth City, TAAL, Olympia, Wraith, and Digital Roots showcase his ability to move between driving rhythmic structures and more textured, immersive production. His work has also appeared through CHERCH Recordings, including collaborations with Rainman ZA and Son of Dod.

A regular presence within Johannesburg’s underground electronic community, Rhepuls has performed at events including Science Frikshun and CHERCH showcases, while also appearing alongside international and local artists including Tantrum Desire, Ben J, Donny Basco, Rainman ZA and others. His performances have taken him beyond Johannesburg too, with appearances in Cape Town forming part of his growing South African footprint.

In the studio, Rhepuls has developed an increasingly collaborative approach, working alongside artists including Rainman ZA on tracks such as Ravage, Cry Baby, Zero Hour and remixes for artists outside the drum & bass scene. His catalogue also includes TAAL, released through CHERCH Recordings, and more recent material continuing his exploration of bass driven electronic music.

With a sound firmly rooted in drum & bass but open to darker electronic influences, Rhepuls continues to contribute to South Africa’s underground bass music culture. His work sits at the intersection of club focused energy and detailed electronic production, making him an artist to watch within the country’s evolving drum & bass landscape.
