Stephy Longueira: Keeping the Light On

Not many DJs can say their journey started on a tennis court in Washington, DC. But Stephy Longueira can. And that’s just the beginning of it.

Cape Town-based, genre-fluid, and genuinely happier on the dance floor than almost anywhere else, she has built a reputation not just for the quality of her sets, but for the magnetic warmth and driving energy she brings to every room she plays. Listening to her performances, you quickly understand that powerful sound and profound connection can come from unexpected places.

From the Tennis Court to the Decks

Stephy’s path to the dance floor wasn’t traditional. Growing up, music was a constant, but her initial focus was high-level tennis. Competitive, dedicated, and skilled enough to play overseas, she spent her teenage years in the United States, studying at university in Washington, DC while the Cape Town club scene developed without her. It was during those years, though, attending international DJ sets and taking in the atmosphere, that something started to take root.

Driven by an instinctive urge to understand how it all worked, she stepped into the electronic music scene in 2021. What started as curiosity quickly shifted into something much larger: a space where she felt entirely alive.

The Momentum Takes Hold

By August 2022, Stephy was touring regularly across South Africa, bringing her sound to an eclectic range of spaces, from intimate club nights and underground warehouse events to luxury brand launches, festivals, and open-air gatherings. By December of that same year, she made her international debut at Sound of Summer in Namibia, establishing a footprint that has since expanded onto stages across South Africa and internationally to Australia.

Her path has been paved with relentless hours listening, refining, and shaping her sets, making sure they land just right. That discipline shows up in every performance, whether she’s commanding the crowd at Halo Night Club, bringing energy to POD Karoo, or playing open-air sets at AfrikaBurn.

The Sound of Somewhere Between

Stephy’s sets resist easy categorisation, and she prefers it that way. Moving fluidly between House, Indie Dance, Bass House, Tech House, Afro Tech, and Techno, she draws from deeper, underground electronic influences to create a sound that is distinctly her own.

Her daytime sets lean into warm, groove-driven territories, evolving naturally as day turns to night into something darker, more hypnotic, and deeply atmospheric. Enigmatic vocals, rolling basslines, and driving rhythms thread through her selections, but the focus remains on storytelling and momentum. She reads a room with confidence, adapting to the crowd’s energy without ever losing the cohesive thread of her own identity.

Keeping the Light On

Ask Stephy about success, and she won’t just talk about the stages she’s played. For her, the real work is about authenticity, connection, and building something meaningful within the music community.

That vision has expanded her presence far beyond the decks. As the Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Concilium, she is leading the creation of The Gathering—an invitation-only immersive music and experience concept set in the Tankwa Karoo, launching in 2026. Stepping into artist curation, creative direction, experience design, and hospitality, she is building a complete experiential world centred around connection, discovery, and sound.

At the end of the day, it’s her ability to keep the joy going, ie., always smiling, always moving, and deeply connected to the people in front of her, that defines her presence. She stepped onto the dance floor with the belief that music can turn a moment into a memory, and she continues to pave the way for others to find their own space in the sound.
