Festival101 Featured in SP Magazine’s October Edition

festival101za | 7 October 2026

Festival101 has officially made its Pro Audio debut, and our second feature in SP Magazine is now live in the October edition. After making our first appearance in the magazine last month, we’re back with a deeper look at some of the people, stories and ideas shaping South Africa’s electronic music scene. This time around, we got to sit down with a few proper legends.

From Trance Culture to the World of Pro Audio

One of the highlights of the October feature is our conversation with Nick Grater, a name that will be familiar to anyone who has spent time around Johannesburg’s underground electronic music scene. Nick is the man behind Teknotribe, the long running Twilight Festival, and now Teknotribe Audio, a platform focused on bringing quality audio equipment and practical knowledge to the next generation of DJs. His story is a good reminder that the electronic music industry rarely follows a straight line. What started with a trench coat at a heavy metal night in Randburg eventually became part of a much bigger story around underground music, community and sound in Johannesburg. For anyone interested in where South Africa’s electronic music culture has come from, and where it could be heading, it’s a conversation worth reading.

A Closer Look at Twilight V.27

We also take a deeper look at Twilight V.27, taking place at Pecan Bush Lodge in Hekpoort on 27 November. With 27 editions behind it, Twilight has built something that goes beyond simply putting on another festival. Its longevity is a reflection of the community that has continued to support it and the role it has played within South Africa’s electronic music landscape. The feature looks at the story behind Twilight, its place in the local scene and what keeps people coming back edition after edition. For a festival that has been quietly building its own blueprint since the early 2000s, there’s plenty of history worth unpacking.

Why We’re Excited About This One

For Festival101, opportunities like this are about more than simply getting our name into another publication. Since launching, our goal has been to make South Africa’s electronic music scene easier to navigate while highlighting the artists, organisers, festivals, businesses and people who help keep it moving. Our brand was built around being that knowledgeable festival friend who can point you in the right direction without making you feel like you should already know everything. That means getting stuck into the stories behind the scene is just as important to us as telling you where the next festival is. Our mission has always been to provide reliable information while helping bridge the gap between people already involved in electronic music and those who are curious to discover more.

The October SP Magazine feature gives us another opportunity to do exactly that. From Nick Grater and the story of Teknotribe Audio to the history and continued evolution of Twilight Festival, there’s plenty to get stuck into. Read the October edition of SP Magazine and check out the full Festival101 feature.
