Introduction

Vortex Open Source returns in December 2026 for three days of psychedelic music, art and community beneath the South African summer sky. Presented by Vortex Trance Adventures in collaboration with Interzone Records, the festival continues a tradition that dates back to 1995, with this edition also marking 30 years of creating dance gatherings rooted in peace, love, unity and respect.

Set within the indigenous bush of Karoo 62 Escape, Open Source is built around a simple concept: one dance floor, one energy, one love. Rather than spreading the programme across multiple stages, the festival focuses its musical experience around one dancefloor, allowing the psychedelic sound to develop continuously across the weekend.

Artists & Lineup

The 2026 lineup brings together established international and South African psychedelic trance artists. Japanese psytrance veteran Tsuyoshi Suzuki and Switzerland’s Creator headline an international contingent that also includes Pardus and Tyro from the Garden Route, alongside Cape Town artists Wyndham, DJ Craig A and Digital Karma, as well as Grant Vortex and Roxy Powers from the Free State.

The programme includes four-hour journey sets described by the organisers as a blend of new school and old school psychedelic trance. Special mystery guests are also listed for the weekend, with the music designed as a continuous psychedelic storytelling experience rather than a series of short, disconnected sets.

Venue

Karoo 62 Escape sits in the foothills of the Western Cape Karoo along Route 62, surrounded by indigenous bush, wildlife, birdlife, mountain views and open skies. The private nature reserve gives Open Source a setting that extends beyond the dancefloor, with trails, outdoor activities and spaces to swim and relax.

For those wanting more than standard camping, the venue offers accommodation ranging from self-catering chalets and Bush Motel units to A-Frames, refurbished caravans and pre-set-up traveller tents.
