Embracing the Moment: Why Hï Ibiza’s No Phones Policy is a Game Changer

festival101za | 8 July 2024

In an era where our phones have become an extension of ourselves, it’s a bold move for any venue to enforce a no phones policy. Yet, that’s exactly what Hï Ibiza, the world’s top-ranked club according to DJ Mag’s 2024 Top 100 Clubs poll, is doing during Damian Lazarus’ residency in the Club Room. This summer, every Saturday starting from May 18th, the Crosstown Rebels founder will transform the dancefloor into a phone-free zone, offering a unique, immersive experience for attendees.

The Vision Behind the Policy

Damian Lazarus, known for his mystical and immersive sets, aims to create an environment where the music and the moment take precedence over digital distractions. On Instagram, Lazarus expressed his vision: “From open to close we take pride in creating a totally unique environment, centered around the mystical Temple. It’s a proper session where we lose our inhibitions and can enjoy a sense of freedom as we enforce our groundbreaking ‘No Phones’ policy inside the room.”

The residency, which runs through October 5th, promises an eclectic lineup of artists such as Carl Craig, TSHA, Sicaria, HoneyLuv, Mathew Jonson, and Acid Pauli, with residents Meera, Tony Y Not, Cameron Jack, and Floyd Lavine on opening duties. With such a stellar cast, the no phones policy is set to enhance the experience by ensuring that the focus remains on the music and the shared atmosphere.

The Reasons Behind the Change

  1. Enhanced Presence: By removing phones from the equation, attendees are encouraged to be fully present in the moment. This enhances the overall experience, making it more memorable and engaging.
  2. Uninterrupted Flow: The absence of phones prevents the common interruptions of calls, messages, and social media notifications, allowing for a seamless and continuous flow of energy on the dancefloor.
  3. Privacy and Freedom: In a world where privacy is increasingly hard to come by, a no phones policy offers a rare opportunity for attendees to let loose without the fear of being recorded or photographed. This can lead to a more liberating and authentic experience.
  4. Community Building: Without phones, people are more likely to engage with those around them, fostering a sense of community and connection that is often lost in today’s tech-driven social interactions.

The Benefits of a No Phones Policy

Immersive Experience: When you step into Hï Ibiza’s Club Room, you are entering a space designed to transport you. With no phones, the sensory experience becomes richer and more immersive, as you engage fully with the music, the lights, and the energy of the crowd.

Greater Connection: Dance music is about connection—connecting with the music, the DJ, and fellow dancers. Without the barrier of screens, these connections become more genuine and profound.

Enhanced Focus on Music: With the distractions of recording and photographing removed, the focus shifts entirely to the music. This allows for deeper appreciation and enjoyment of the DJs’ sets, fostering a more appreciative and enthusiastic audience.

Increased Spontaneity: Phones often serve as a safety net in social situations, but they can also limit spontaneity. A phone-free environment encourages people to be more spontaneous and adventurous, leading to a more dynamic and exciting night.

A New Era for Clubbing

The move by Hï Ibiza to enforce a no phones policy is a testament to the club’s commitment to providing an unparalleled experience. By encouraging attendees to be fully present and engaged, the policy not only enhances individual enjoyment but also elevates the collective energy of the dancefloor. As Damian Lazarus and his impressive roster of guests take to the decks, the Club Room at Hï Ibiza is set to become a sanctuary for those seeking a truly immersive and unforgettable night out.

So, if you’re heading to Ibiza this summer, be prepared to put your phone away and lose yourself in the music. It might just be the best decision you make.
