Biography

For more than three decades, Jimpster has been one of the defining figures in deep house music, quietly shaping the genre through his productions, DJ sets, and influential record labels. Known offstage as Jamie Odell, the UK artist has built a reputation for crafting music that balances soulful warmth, timeless groove, and forward-thinking sound design.

From his early sample-heavy productions in the 1990s to the deep house classics he is celebrated for today, Jimpster has continuously evolved while staying true to the essence of house music. Drawing inspiration from jazz, funk, soul, disco, electro, and ambient music, his productions combine rich analogue textures, hypnotic rhythms, and emotive melodies that resonate far beyond the dancefloor.

“It’s not about creating music for the moment. It’s about building sounds that resonate long after the track has finished playing.”

His acclaimed catalogue includes beloved originals such as English Rose, The Sun Comes Up, and Dangly Panther, alongside iconic remixes for artists including Osunlade, Seal, Bob Marley, Kerri Chandler, Josh Wink, and Adam Port. Each release reflects his signature ability to blend musical depth with dancefloor functionality.

As a DJ, Jimpster is renowned for expertly crafted journeys through deep house, soulful techno, underground disco, and melodic grooves. His performances have taken him to some of the world’s most respected venues and clubs, including Panorama Bar in Berlin, Fabric in London, Womb in Tokyo, and Cielo in New York.

Beyond his own music, Jimpster has played a pivotal role in nurturing electronic music talent as co-founder and A&R of Freerange Records, Delusions Of Grandeur, and Cyphon Recordings. Through these respected imprints, he has helped shape the careers of countless artists while continuing to push the boundaries of contemporary house music.
